Water Bottles With Filters-Better Than Bottled?

Man has searched for a way to transport water efficiently and safely since the beginning of time. Up until about the last 100 years ago, your choices were pretty slim. Plastic is an invention of World War II ingenuity. You could use animal hide, or a hollowed out gourd.

Clay pots and wooden buckets came along, but they were only good for transporting water a short distance. They usually had open tops, and I never met a wooden bucket that didn't leak. Without some type of seal-able, leak-proof container you just could not travel very far from your source of water. And for the most part, people did not travel very far from their source of water.

As the industrial revolution got going full steam, man found out a way to roll metal. Along came the metal canteen and canned goods as well. This all happened right around the American Civil War. Another invention of necessity to gain advantage in war.

By the 1970's plastic was everywhere, and everything including water bottles was being produced from plastic. In the 60's and 70's it was canteens, and jugs. By the mid 80's it was the personal size disposable plastic bottles we find on the grocery store shelves today.

By the 90's most of us learned the water coming from our tap usually wasn't all that great for us. Municipal water supplies continue to degrade in quality in the US.

By the turn of the century we got the real kicker and learned that most of that great bottled spring water we were (and still are) buying off the shelf at premium prices was coming from the same source as our kitchen sink. There could be a spring water bottling plant in your neighborhood. You probably didn't know your water was worth so much after you added a fancy label and put it in a "disposable" bottle.

So how do you get healthy, clean water in a bottle that's lightweight and easily transportable without ruining the environment or your wallet? A water bottle with filter is the simplest solution.

There are many brands of water bottles with filters. Brita is the most internationally recognizable company and has been in the home water filtration business for years. CamelBak and ECO-Flo are also trusted brands.

Whether your hiking, camping, or just on your daily commute in the car, a water bottle with a filter is the best choice. The next time you are getting ready to buy a bottle of water off the shelf, think about the better, more environmentally conscious, safer way to enjoy mother natures greatest gift...WATER!
